The Nutrition Research Information Network (NUTRINET) conducted the Adopt-A-Library Turnover Ceremony at Cavite State University – Naic(CvSU-Naic) on December 2, 2015. CvSU-Naic was the third beneficiary of the project. The activity is part of the continuing efforts to provide efficient flow of food and nutrition (F&N) information.
The Adopt-A-Library project aims to facilitate the collection development of public college or university libraries in need of additional references for use in F&N and related courses.
Dr. Gilchor P. Cubillo, Dean of CvSU-Naic, gave the Welcome Remarks. He expressed the CvSu-Naic’s gratitude for being the beneficiary of the project. He also expressed the university’s appreciation on the donations, specially the library furniture, they received. He promised that the donations will be used in the most efficient way.
On behalf of Dr. Mario V. Capanzana, Chair of the NUTRINET Governing Board and Director of the FNRI-DOST, Dr. Milflor S. Gonzales first introduced the Technical Committee (TecCom) members present in the ceremony. She then gave a brief discussion about the Adopt-A-Library project conducted by the Network. She also discussed the history, mission, and vision of NUTRINET. She also recounted how the Network came to know what happened to CvSU-Naic’s library. She added that the university’s library was the first beneficiary of library furniture aside from books. Dr. Milflor S. Gonzales, OIC-TDSTSD and Supervising Science Research Specialist of FNRI-DOST, is the current chair of NUTRINET TecCom.
Ms. Verjo Angelie C. Maristela, SRS I and Chemist of DOST IV-A PSTC Cavite, welcomed the NUTRINET TecCom in their province on behalf of Engr. Raul D. Castañeda, Provincial S&T Director of Cavite.
An audiovisual presentation (AVP) about the Network was also presented.
The highlight of the activity was the signing of the Deed of Donation witnessed by the TecCom members and officials of CvSU-Naic.
In her acceptance message, Prof. Catherine S. Diones, CvSU Director of Curriculum and Instruction, said that the Network’s Adopt-A-Library project was indeed timely and a blessing to their university. Citing the incident that happened to their library a few months ago, she added that the project gave the students a better learning environment.
On behalf of the campus library, Ms. Rien Rose V. Salvador, CvSU-Naic Campus Librarian, gave the Closing Remarks. Ms. Salvador said that almost 70% of the library collection came from NUTRINET. She added that no words can express how grateful the university is to NUTRINET for the timely donations.
The ceremony was attended and witnessed by the NUTRINET TecCom representatives and CvSU-Naic officials.
