In celebration of the Network’s 31st anniversary, the Nutrition Research Information Network (NUTRINET) conducted the Adopt-A-Library Turnover Ceremony at University of Rizal System – Tanay Campus (URS-Tanay) on July 31, 2018. URS-Tanay is the fourth beneficiary of the project. The activity is part of continuing efforts to provide efficient flow of food and nutrition (F&N) information among researchers and other stakeholders.

 

The Adopt-A-Library project facilitates the collection development of public college or university libraries in need of additional references for use in F&N and related courses.

 

Dr. Fe D. Batoon, Campus Director of URS-Tanay, gave the Welcome Remarks. She expressed the URS-Tanay’s gratitude for being the beneficiary of the project. She stressed that adoption is a very complicated and difficult process. She promised that the University’s library will nourish the minds of their students with the help of the donated materials by NUTRINET.

 

Dr. Milflor S. Gonzales, NUTRINET Technical Committee Chair and DOST-FNRI Chief Science Research Specialist, gave a message on behalf of Dr. Mario V. Capanzana, Chair of the NUTRINET Governing Board and Director of the DOST-FNRI. In her message, she briefly discussed the Adopt-A-Library project and its first three (3) beneficiaries.  She said that the project will continue as a way of giving back to universities and colleges in need of F&N collection. She added that URS-Tanay received the highest number of material donations. She hoped that all the reference materials donated by NUTRINET will be well-utilized. In addition, she shared the awareness of rising number of predatory conferences and publications which is a concern of academe.

 

On behalf of Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, Regional Director of DOST-IVA, Provincial Science and Technology Director Fernando E. Ablaza of DOST-Rizal also gave a message. He discussed FNRI’s technologies that helped their area such as complementary foods, tubig talino, and information on glycemic index. These projects have helped eliminate misinformation on F&N in their locality. He also shared the latest collaboration of URS and DOST-IVA in producing planting materials of makapuno. He ended his message with his anniversary greetings for NUTRINET.

 

An audiovisual presentation (AVP) about the Network produced by DOST-STII was also presented.

 

The highlight of the activity was the signing of the Deed of Donation witnessed by the NUTRINET TecCom members, officials of URS-Tanay and librarians from different campuses of URS.

 

Dr. Marita R. Canapi, University President of URS, delivered the acceptance message. She said that the Network’s Adopt-A-Library project was significant and substantial for the development of the University. This helps fulfill their mandate as a university to collaborate with the community and agencies. She guaranteed that the donations given to them will be utilized to the best of their ability. She added that the projects implemented by DOST in their region are worthwhile and meaningful. The challenge that is given to them will be very well kept by the institution. She likewise shared that she will be the ambassadress in promoting the DOST-STII’s STARBOOKS project nationwide.  She ended her message by encouraging everyone to be a “Yes man”.

 

The Vice President of Academic Affairs of URS-Tanay Campus, Dr. Flordeliza R. Peñaranda, gave the Closing Remarks. She said that the University was grateful for the Network’s additional support as partners in enriching the knowledge of youth. She hoped that this partnership will prosper and continue to contribute to the University’s goals of nurturing tomorrow’s progress.

 

The ceremony was attended and witnessed by the NUTRINET TecCom representatives, officials of URS-Tanay and librarians from different campuses of URS.
