The Nutrition Research Information  Network (NUTRINET) conducted the Adopt-A-Library (AAL) Turnover   Ceremony at Cavite State University – CCAT Campus (CvSU-CCAT), Rosario, Cavite on August 23, 2019. The day  coincided with celebration of CvSU-CCAT’s 49th Foundation Day and     NUTRINET’s 32nd Anniversary. CvSU-CCAT is the fifth beneficiary of NUTRINET’s AAL project. The project assists the collection development of public college or university libraries in need of additional references in Food & Nutrition (F&N) and related courses.

Ms. Dan Marie F. Navarrete, CvSU-CCAT Campus Librarian, gave the Welcome Remarks. She expressed CvSU-CCAT’s appreciation for being the beneficiary of the project. She hopes that the materials donated by the Network will be used by the students in their   studies.

Dr. Hernando D. Robles, CvSU President, gave a short message. In his message, he said that the CvSU         community is thankful that the Network adopted CvSU-CCAT Campus. He added that CvSU-CCAT is the second CvSU beneficiary of the project. CvSU-Naic Campus was the first beneficiary. He ended his message by assuring that the materials donated will be taken cared of and used by the students of the campus.

Mr. Dexter Y. De Leon, NUTRINET Secretariat Head and DOST-FNRI     Science Research Specialist II, gave a message on behalf of Dr. Mario V.    Capanzana, Chair of the NUTRINET Governing Board and Director of the DOST-FNRI. In his message, he said that it is often a misconception that NUTRINET is DOST-FNRI or DOST. He stressed that NUTRINET is a consortium of 19 member-institutions whose libraries and information centers have linked-up to form a specialized  information system in food and nutrition. He also enumerated the members of the Network. He likewise discussed the AAL project and its first four (4) beneficiaries. He emphasized that CvSU-CCAT Campus is the second beneficiary of the project from CvSU system. He ended his message by greeting the CvSU-CCAT Campus on its 49th Foundation Day.

Dr. Alexander R. Madrigal, Regional Director of DOST-IVA, also gave a   message. He said that DOST-IVA is   always supportive of DOST-FNRI’s and NUTRINET’s projects in the region. He stressed that information dissemination is important to lessen malnutrition in the region especially in geographically     isolated and disadvantage areas (GIDA). He added that information dissemination together with proper use of technology will not be possible without scientific facts. These scientific facts are available in the library. He also reminded the   students to always read and visit the  library to gain knowledge specially in fighting malnutrition. He then pledged additional equipment for the campus’ food laboratory with a condition that it should focus on developing nutritious and healthy food products. He ended his message by challenging the CvSU-CCAT officials and library staff to craft a proposal for an expansion of library as a Learning and Innovation Space (LIS).

 An audiovisual presentation (AVP) about the CvSU-CCAT Campus was presented followed by the NUTRINET’s AVP. The Network’s AVP was produced by Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII).

The highlight of the activity was the signing of the Deed of Donation witnessed by NUTRINET TecCom members, officials of CvSU-CCAT and librarians.

Dr. Jose P. Lisama, CvSU-CCAT Campus Administrator, delivered the acceptance message. He said that in this time where information can be accessed through smart phones, he still believes that the best source of correct information is books. He added that books do not lie. It will give you the right information. He then urged the students and professors to use materials in the library in doing their researches. He ended his messages by assuring the Network that the materials will be promoted by the campus library to its students and professors.

The Director for Instruction of CvSU-CCAT, Prof. Marilou P. Luseco gave the Closing Remarks. She said that this day was full of blessings. One of these    blessings is the partnership with NUTRINET. She asked the students to promise to utilize the materials donated by the Network. She hoped that one day one of their students will be able to publish their research with the help of the materials donated.

The ceremony was attended and witnessed by the NUTRINET TecCom representatives, officials of CvSU-CCAT, librarians and students.
